About Us

Second Harvest of the Big Bend is the food bank that distributes millions of pounds of food every year to hungry families in the 11-county region of the Big Bend.

In Fiscal Year 2015-2016, we distributed over 6.5 million pounds of food, enough for 5.2 million meals, for people in need in the Big Bend.

The food we distribute includes donated products from national manufacturers, local wholesalers and retailers, other food banks, and local food drives. We also distribute USDA commodities through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and food that we purchase.

We do this in partnership with over 100 non-profit and faith based organizations who serve individuals, families, children and other low-income persons with special needs. Our food is delivered and distributed to these partner agencies, which in turn provide food pantries, feeding sites and other programs for those in need.

Our operating hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are normally closed on Saturday, Sunday and designated holidays.

Food is distributed though our partner agencies and no food is distributed to the public at this location. To find a partner agency near you, please click here .

One in five people in the Big Bend experience hunger on a regular basis. Every month we provide meals to feed more than 50,000 people, but the number of people in need is more than twice that amount.

We estimate that an additional 750,000 pounds of food would be available, if Second Harvest could obtain the resources to acquire, process and deliver it.

Ten pounds of donated food provides approximately 8 meals for a family. A $10 contribution allows Second Harvest to obtain 50 lbs. of food, or 40 meals for a family.

The numbers of those in need continue to increase, so we are also working to increase the amount of food available. We hope that you will join us as we fight hunger and feed hope!
