America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend is part of a team of first responders in our region which includes the Red Cross, the Emergency Operations Center, Volunteer Leon and others.
Our organization helps those on the frontline by providing food, basic necessity items and water in addition to transporting these items to local sites when Red Cross’ resources are limited. In June 2012, Second Harvest responded to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby which affected Wakulla and Franklin Counties within our service area by distributing water, emergency food boxes and cleaning supplies to area residents impacted by this event. We also were able to provide emergency food and supplies to two of our sister food banks whose counties were also severely impacted by this storm. Collectively, we distributed more than 66,130 pounds of food and emergency supplies to residents during this time.
On a regular basis, America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend stores specific meals such as Meals Ready to Eat (MRE’s), disaster type meals, and truckloads of water in the event of a disaster. America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend also works in conjunction with the Florida Association of Food Banks and its other 13 member food banks to cover disaster situations throughout the entire state of Florida.
Monetary donations can be made on online. Donations will be used to purchase the much needed food items and cleaning supplies.
Donations of food and cleaning supplies can be made at any Wal-Mart store in Leon County in the Second Harvest collection barrels or at any of our on-going drop off locations throughout our service area. FIND A COMPLETE LIST OF LOCATIONS HERE
