Volunteer FAQ

Q: What are your volunteer hours?

A: Volunteer hours are from 9:00AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. During the school year, we are open the third Saturday of the month from 9AM until noon. Please contact Shari Hubbard at ShariHubbard@FightingHunger.org if you are interested in volunteering the third Saturday as this is a very popular event.

Q: Are there age limits on who can volunteer at Second Harvest?

A: Yes. The minimum age for volunteering is 8 years old and children under 14 years of age must have supervision from a parent or guardian. Please remember the majority of our volunteer work is in a warehouse environment.

Q: Is there a dress code?

A: Yes! Please wear closed-toed shoes and dress weather appropriate. The warehouse is not climate controlled. Volunteers without closed-toed shoes will not be permitted in the warehouse. Walking boots and Crocs are not permitted. Halter tops, short shorts and A-shirts are not permitted.

Q: Will my hours count for community service, required hours for school or other programs? Can you sign/fill out my form?

A: Absolutely. Please keep in mind that we are selective with court ordered community service volunteers and your charge(s) may preclude you from volunteering at Second Harvest and will be at the discretion of the volunteer coordinator. Please note that any charge of a violent or sexual nature will disqualify you from volunteering at Second Harvest. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information.

Q: How do I get to your warehouse?

A: Directions are available at http://www.fightinghunger.org/About-Us/Directions-Map

Q: When I come in to volunteer, can I bring food or monetary donations?

A: Yes of course! We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit and will have a receipt ready for your tax purposes.
