Child Nutrition Programs

America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend has several programs to meet the needs of children. 33% of the people we serve are children.

BackPack Program

Provides 835 bags of food every week to children during the weekend in Leon, Gadsden, Jackson and Taylor Counties.

Summer Food Program

Provides a nutritious meal and snack to children at sponsored sites who might otherwise go hungry. By providing meals during the summer months, we ensure that children continue to have a stable source of food for their nourishment and growth. In 2012 the Summer Food Program provided more than 18,000 meals and snacks to children in need.

Afterschool Meals Program (AMP)

A program that helps feed children in the Big Bend at local community centers and churches afterschool during the school months of August through June. AMP sites have the option to serve a two-component snack or a five-component meal or both during the afterschool hours.
